The Beatles

The Beatles turned the rock ’n’ roll world upside down in the early 1960s, inciting “Beatlemania” frenzy from the onset of “Love Me Do” and evolving steadily through the rest of the decade. No other band has been as influential on pop culture, and the Liverpool foursome continues to escalate in popularity and influence with every passing year.

After their widely successful British Invasion beginnings, the Fab Four embraced psychedelia and hard rock—and even Indian influences—while simultaneously serving as the springboard for the era’s social and cultural revolutions. Landmark albums include A Hard Day’s Night, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, The White Album, and Abbey Road—though, for the record, everything in their classic cannon is considered pure gold.

Even long after John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr parted ways in 1970 to pursue blockbuster solo careers, the Beatles are still the best-selling act in American history. They're currently knocking at the door of 180 million albums sold, while global figures have topped the 600 million mark.
