Green Day

Punk rockers Green Day toiled throughout California’s independent scene as early as 1986, though it wasn’t until 1994’s now classic Dookie that the band dominated the mainstream. Dookie introduced the group’s frenetic sounds to the masses and—thanks in part to the monster smashes “Longview,” “Welcome to Paradise,” “Basket Case” and “When I Come Around”—wound up selling 20 million copies.

As the ’90s and ’00s progressed, so did their hit parade, including such timeless tunes as “Geek Stink Breath,” “Brain Stew/Jaded,” “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)” and “Minority.” Green Day also notched another landmark album in 2004 with the rock opera American Idiot, which morphed into a Grammy and Tony Award-winning Broadway musical.

These Rock and Roll Hall of Famers gained additional ground when 2009’s 21st Century Breakdown became the band’s second consecutive album to land at the top of the Billboard charts. In 2012, Green Day released three separate albums—¡Uno!, ¡Dos! and ¡Tré!—in the space of just a few months and then embarked on yet another massive world tour.
