Little Richard

Little Richard

Long before Elvis Presley and the Beatles, Little Richard invented rock ’n’ roll as early as the mid ’50s. From then until the end of his career in the 1990s, this flamboyant singer/songwriter/piano player incorporated soul, funk, R&B, gospel, and eventually rap and hip-hop into his repertoire, influencing an endless array of artists across every genre.

Notable hits include “Long Tall Sally,” “Lucille,” and “Good Golly Miss Molly,” though his biggest smash was unequivocally 1955’s “Tutti Frutti,” which has since been enshrined in the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry. Though he briefly fell out of fashion as trends changed, a 1985 biography propelled a full-fledged career comeback that even included an acting role in Down and Out in Beverly Hills.

Though plagued with health problems in the latter part of his life, this living legend clings tightly to his Christian faith and continues preaching positivity. He was inducted into both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame and is also a recipient of a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
