Most of the world first heard the raspy voice of Rod Stewart in the mid ’60s with the Jeff Beck Group. In the early ’70s, he would join Faces—alongside fellow ex-Jeff Beck Group member and future Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood—and move further into the public eye with rollicking singles “Stay With Me” and “Ooh La La.”

While the Faces were rising to fame, Stewart simultaneously explored a solo career, breaking big with 1971’s landmark album Every Picture Tells a Story and its chart-topping hit “Maggie May.” The rest of the ’70s proved equally kind to the singer, while the ’80s and ’90s yielded further superstardom from the smashes “Some Guys Have All the Luck” and “Forever Young.”

Stewart also struck gold revisiting his roots with Wood on 1993’s Unplugged…and Seated and completely reinvented himself as a crooner in the 2000s with his widely successful Great American Songbook series. Throughout it all, he’s sold more than 100 million records and is a two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee (both individually and with Faces).
