California Dreaming

Photography by Henry Diltz

California Dreaming is an extensive retrospective of Henry Diltz, one of America’s pre-eminent rock photographers. This limited edition volume presents a wealth of previously unseen images alongside Henry’s most famous shots—including seminal album covers such as the Doors’ Morrison Hotel and Crosby, Stills and Nash’s eponymous debut. California Dreaming features personal anecdotes and observations from nearly 50 contributors, including fascinating and frank first-hand accounts of the stories behind the photographs. Narrated by the stars Henry photographed, California Dreaming is the defining record of the golden age of the L.A. music scene, as told by those who were at its center.

California Dreaming was released in a limited edition of 2,000 books—350 Deluxe Edition copies (already fully subscribed) and 1,650 Collector Edition copies. The Collector Edition is printed on luxurious, heavyweight archival art papers, hand-bound in rich brown goatskin leather and real denim, and housed in a unique tie-dye slipcase. Each copy is hand-signed and numbered, and includes limited pressing of Highway 70, (an archival-grade gold CD of songs by southern Californian artists, recorded by Henry Diltz’s band the Modern Folk Quartet).
