David Bowie

Photography by Terry O’Neill

David Bowie photographed for the Diamond Dogs album cover in Los Angeles, 1974. David often enlisted several artists to create his album covers. The photographs from this session were used as inspiration and reference for the final cover art—a man-dog hybrid painted by Belgian artist Guy Peellaert. The final result was typically edgy and immediately controversial because the animal was anatomically complete. Shortly after its release, the record company had the painting airbrushed to conceal the genitalia. Original versions of the album are rare and collectible.
