Count Basie

Photography by Barrie Wentzell

Taken during a cigarette break while rehearsing for a Jazz 625 show. During the sixties jazz was going strong in England and to be able to see and hear and photograph the likes of Miles Davis, Ben Webster, Thelonius Monk, and the great Mr. Basie, I deemed an honor and privilege. The Count was one of the most laid-back characters; he’d seen it all!
