Jimi Hendrix

Photography by Baron Wolman

On stage Jimi met my test of musical and performing excellence; he was the consummate entertainer. His was an extraordinary musical talent, both with his thoughtful lyrics and incomparable guitar skills. I often say I “saw” the music; I was always looking for those visual magical musical moments that caught the essence of a live action performance in a static image.

Jimi Hendrix performs at the Winterland Arena in San Francisco, February 1968. This image was used on the front cover of Rolling Stone magazine Issue No. 7, published on March 9th, 1968.
