Jeff Beck
Photography by Barrie Wentzell
“A series of Saturday open-air concerts were started in 1971 at the Crystal Palace. These summer afternoons became legendary events. This one featuring Jeff Beck, Bogert & Appice—former members of Vanilla Fudge—was sponsored by Melody Maker. The location was in Crystal Palace Park, high above South London. There was a large lake in front of a small bandshell which glistened in the summer sun and a very narrow grass walkway in front of the stage which posed the danger of falling into the lake if you stepped back too far. I managed to get this “up close” shot of Jeff from just a few feet away.”
