Pete Townshend of the Who
Photography by Barrie Wentzell
“Taken in my Soho studio, for an article Pete Townshend was doing on the Musicians’ Union and the problems he and other bands were having performing live on TV with miming, backing tracks, studio musicians, sound engineers, and producers. Pete wrote a semi-regular page for the Melody Maker, and apart from being a great writer he’d come up with some great visual ideas for us to have fun with. He hired the old suit and topper and we shot some “poor starving musician” photos.”
