Icon Photographer Brian Aris

Brian Aris

Brian Aris began his career as a photojournalist covering frontline assignments around the world—riots in Northern Ireland, civil conflict in Lebanon, famine in Africa, and the war in Vietnam. After ten years of reportage, he changed direction completely, opening a studio in London to photograph glamour and fashion models.

Three years after that, Brian shifted his focus again, this time concentrating exclusively on musicians. During the next two decades, he masterfully documented every aspect of the British music scene—from punk to pop. A relationship with Sir Bob Geldof led to Brian being appointed the official photographer for the all-superstar “Band Aid” charity recording, later followed by exclusive backstage coverage of the Live Aid and Live8 concerts.

Brian’s work has since expanded to include actors, authors, and even royalty. He was appointed to take the official photos of Her Majesty the Queen to mark her 70th birthday as well as those to celebrate her 50th anniversary with the Duke of Edinburgh. Brian’s archive represents one of the largest and most diverse photographic collections in the UK.
