Icon Photographer Markus Klinko

Markus Klinko

Markus Klinko is an award-winning international fashion/celebrity photographer who has worked with many of today’s most iconic stars of film, music, and fashion. He also engages in fundraising initiatives, and his campaign to benefit children with AIDS raised over one million dollars in just three days.

Born in Switzerland of French, Italian, Jewish, and Hungarian descent, Markus spent his early years mastering the classical harp. He performed in recitals and as a featured soloist with symphony orchestras around the world. After a hand injury, Markus retired from his concert and recording career and decided to become a fashion photographer. His editorial clients include Vogue, GQ, Vanity Fair, Harper’s Bazaar, and Interview magazine.

Markus shot album covers for Beyonce and Mariah Carey, but is most recognized for David Bowie’s 2002 album Heathen. This celebrated session includes hundreds of photos—from highly stylized to surreal—that depict Bowie leading wolves, cradling a baby, and posing as a blind man. Many of these images are now being offered as fine-art prints for the first time.
