Patti Smith

“Almost every night the scene outside CBGB—especially between sets—was as much fun as the sights and sounds inside…! The stretch of sidewalk with cars parked at the curb created a living room-like environment for casual lounging which beautifully complimented the “everyone’s always in the kitchen” party scene in the bar and on stage. On this particular night, Blondie was headlining, and a Who’s Who of NYC punk rockers came out to see the band’s first show after their most recent tour. The sidewalk was packed, and in the middle of it all Patti stood demurely, for but a moment, then laughing & hugging, then saying “hi” to everyone. She parleyed her joyful innocence and steely focus into a really good time for all—comparable in every way to her legendary “packed to the rafters” live shows inside.”
