Icon Photographer Rick McGinnis

Rick McGinnis

Rick McGinnis grew up in Toronto, Ontario, only a few blocks from the Kodak Canada plant. He began working as a photographer in the mid-’80s covering Toronto’s hardcore punk scene, but spent most of his career specializing in editorial portraiture.

Rick’s work has appeared in numerous publications, as well as being featured on album covers and in box sets. In 2014, he began a blog devoted to exploring his three decades as a photographer—“Some Old Pictures I Took”—where he often revived unpublished works that had never been seen before.

In late 2018, Rick brought “Some Old Pictures” to an end and started “Rick McGinnis Photographs” and “AWay With a Camera,” a photography blog dedicated to the new chapter in his career—landscape and travel photography. He still lives and works in Toronto.
